Cacique

  • Description: Documentary, Full-Length
Synopsis
  • Cacique de Ramos is one of the biggest terreiros de samba cariocas. It was founded on 20 January 1961. In old street carnivals, Cacique and his rivals Bafo da Onça and Bohêmios de Irajá entertained the Rio suburbs. The sound of the Cacique reached the ears of Beth Carvalho. In 1978 Beth launches the LP “Pé no chão” with the participation of Cacique. The album was a success. Everyone wanted to know where that rhythm, those instruments came from. They were: Bira, Zeca Pagodinho, Birani, Neuci, Jorge Aragão, Almir Guineto and “Sombrinha”. Our film wants to tell the story of this block and this movement. But it mainly wants to talk about the people who made and make Cacique the most authentic manifestation of samba and the popular culture of Rio de Janeiro. Revelers, musicians, regulars, singers, composers and workers. This large family.
